Know your Heart Attack!

I am a firm believer that knowledge without action is almost worthless; I did say almost! Of course, in the grand scheme of things, you have to know but if you know and do not act, knowing has little real value.

So here I invite you to take a quiz on how much you know about the signs of heart attack. And even more than that, I hope you take care of your heart and your health.

To take the quix, go here:

A Tale of Two Seas

Posted by thombush on April 26, 2011 at 10:33 PM Comments comments (0)

Given the way I feel about the Law of Attraction, see my earlier blog below, in that it focuses on a gimme gimmee gimmee mentality, I found this to be like a breath of fresh air! It talks about the Joy if giving and that the more you develop a giving nature, the more you get a receiving one too.

I hope you enjoy the Tale of Two Seas?

A Tale of Two Seas

Sitting in the Geography class in school, I remember how fascinated I was whenwe were being taught all about the Dead Sea. As you probably recall, theDead Sea is really a Lake, not a sea (and as my Geography teacher pointedout, if you understood that, it would guarantee 4 marks in the term paper!) It’sso high in salt content that the human body can float easily. You canalmost lie down and read a book! The salt in the Dead Sea is as high as35% - almost 10 times the normal ocean water. And all that saltiness has meantthat there is no life at all in the Dead Sea. No fish, no vegetation, no seaanimals. Nothing lives in the Dead sea, hence the name: Dead Sea.

While the Dead Sea has remained etched in mymemory, I don't seem to recall learning about the Sea of Galilee in myschool Geography lesson.  So when I heard about the Sea of Galilee and theDead Sea and the tale of the two seas I was intrigued. It turns out thatthe Sea of Galilee is just north of the Dead Sea. Both the Sea of Galileeand the Dead Sea receive their water from river Jordan. And yet, they are very, verydifferent. Unlike the Dead Sea, the Sea of Galilee is pretty, resplendent withrich, colourful marine life. There are lots of plants and lots of fishtoo. In fact, the Sea of Galilee is home to over twenty different types of fish.Same region, same source of water, and yet while one sea is full of life, theother is dead; how come?

You might wonder why this is?  The River Jordan flows into the Sea ofGalilee and then flows out. The water simply passes through the Sea ofGalilee in and then out - and that keeps the Sea healthy and vibrant, teemingwith marine life. But the Dead Sea is so far below the mean sea level, that it has no outlet. The water flows in from the river Jordan, but doesnot flow out.  There are no outlet streams and it is estimated that over amillion tons of water evaporate from the Dead Sea every day. Leaving itsalty, too full of minerals and unfit for any type of life.

The Dead Sea takes water from the River Jordan, and holds it. It does not give, result, no life at all. Think about it, life is not just about getting itsabout giving too. We all need to be a bit like the Sea of Galilee. We are fortunateto get wealth, knowledge, love and respect. But if we don't learn to give, wecould all end up like the Dead Sea. The love, respect, wealth and knowledgecould all evaporate; just like the water in the Dead Sea.

If we have a Dead Sea mentality, one of merely taking in more water, moremoney, more everything, the results can be disastrous. A good idea is tomake sure that in the sea of your own life, you have outlets; many outlets. For to have love, wealth and everything else that you want in your life, youhave to make sure you don't just get but that you give too! Open the taps andyou'll open the floodgates to happiness. Make it a habit to share, to give andexperience life; experience the Best!

Law of Attraction.....Gone Mad!

Posted by thombush on October 12, 2010 at 11:18 AM Comments comments (1)

I think it reasonably fair to say that not a single day goes past without something hitting my inbox offering some new fangled revolutionary way to attract great abundant wealth to me (AKA the Law of Attraction). In a sense this perplexes me, because we have known for many years that the accumulation of wealth is no guarantee of abundant happiness. And of course, cynical as I may be, this new fangled wealth attraction strategy; comes at a wealth making price for the author (economies of scale etc.)! Of course money is important, but I also think that a lot of people are missing the point. Because it’s often how you acquire money that makes it of value. And the number of lottery winners that win it and then lose it, is a testament to that?

Personally I think that money is better as a byproduct of a job/business well done, than something to be desired for in and of itself. And of course I ask myself,  if all you have to do is will it to you; why aren't Companies (often the ones selling these courses) doing just that?

Why would you waste time Marketing, promoting and delivering a course on wealth creation; if all you had to do was will it to you? And I am sure the Fortune 500 would love to dispense with their multi million Dollar marketing budget if it were that easy?

For sure there will be a certain number of people who this will work for; I don’t why this is, it just seems to happen that way! But my experience, from research, is that it does not work more times than it does!

Now I do believe we can attract things to us, but I believe it is often a consequence of the way our wonderful brain works. There is a structure in the Brain called Reticular Formation (also known as RAS or Reticular Activating System), this system is believed to be the executive organiser of the Brain, and its fibres go deep into almost every area of it. When you see something, say the car that you really like and articulate that very expressively; all of a sudden, hey presto, you start to see it everywhere! In all probability the car is no more prevalent than before; it’s just that now it has been identified as important. It’s as if it is now on your RADAR and you notice what is on your RADAR!

Similarly and pardoxically, I believe that we can will certain things towards us; as if by thinking about them, you bring them about! I first latched on to this when I read Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” He called them his imaginary helpers. I tried this idea, and very often it works. I use it in the context of helpers (but not the infamous beach Genie type)! I just don’t buy the Idea that unfathomable wealth is one of them.

And it seems to me that the ones who get rich from these get rich schemes are the ones who sell them; not use them? I get a flood of offers; of course if I am lucky enough to have  been specially selected!  Some, if not most, of them, telling me that I need to act quickly, as there is a limited number, or that it will close shortly or that the site will soon be taken down…… Hurry, Hurry, Hurry. And yet if you were to apply for it later, as I have on occasions, it is still there. Mostly the occasions that I have purchased something, is because it has been greatly reduced (often due to overwhelming response:D)…  but in reality I am now getting it for what it is actually worth….. Like the e-book “value $999” yours for only $4.99….or free if you buy now! Oh come on, do people still buy these tactics?

Of course if you do the course… and you don’t get rich….. that just means you did it wrongly….. or you weren’t congruent etc. Or worse still you are sabotaging yourself. Of course there is a strong evidential basis for people sabotaging their efforts…. I am just not totally convinced it occurs with such profound regularity as with the failed Law of Attraction schemes (as in a failure for the user who tries it).

When we latch onto Lotto or 4D mania, I think we give up a certain part of ourself. I think we put an unfounded amount of trust into the realm of pot luck! And for sure, 1 in 14,000,000 will truly be lucky?

I really believe that most of us undersell ourself and/or underestimate our ability or potential. And that is evident because of the number of people I see who have good positions, good opportunities, but see themselves as undeserving or worse still….. unworthy; and consequentially, do not reach their potential!

I believe their attraction to the Negative has far more to do with where they are than their lack of having a Law of (positive) Attraction. And, as I have already explained, we attract the positive proportionally to how positive we are; and that is often, if not always, a consequence of our state of mind.

I also believe that there is a Universal Force that we can use to align or malign us. Mostly I believe this is because of where we focus our attention. If we are in a positive mindset we notice the positive and visa versa! And given that we live in a world where there is far more negativity thrown at us (apparently….. because we have a right to know) it is no surprise that the central theme of our lives tends to perpetuate the negative.

Now I know that I am very lucky (and given the amount of work I put into that, I believe I deserve to be), because virtually every day I am expounding, to my clients, the virtues of how being happy makes life a joy (happiness as a state of being, rather than receiving).  How, by focusing on the positive you bring positivity onto your horizon, it becomes visible (subconsciously mostly); it enters your RADAR!

So, do I believe that we can attract things to us? Yes, very definitely, do I believe that all you have to do is go on a course and that within weeks some astronomical sum will magically appear for you?    Hmmm, well why don’t you write me with how it worked, or not, for you?

What others think of YOU!

Posted by thombush on October 12, 2010 at 11:01 AM Comments comments (0)

It is very common for Clients to think that others think badly of them. But when we cut to the chase, this is often not what others actually think; but rather, it's what they think others think! In reality this is often a projection of their own thinking about themselves!

So when I came across this famous quote, I just had to share!

"You wouldn't worry so much about what others think of you if you realised how seldom they do."

Eleanor Roosevelt  (1884-1962, American First Lady, Author, Speaker and Politician)

LINKS TO SURVIVAL WITH POSITIVE THINKING

Posted by thombush on October 11, 2010 at 8:08 PM Comments comments (0)

One of the most unexplainable things (but not unusual) I experience as a Therapist, is the fact that many people I see have a dramtatic turnaround in their life. Now just to explain, I am not a musician and I am not blowing my own trumpet here. When a Client has such a turnaround it is because of what they do; not totally about what I do. Of course, I believe I am instrumental in that process; but it is the Client who does the work.

In many ways it's like asking a stranger for directions to somewhere that is difficult to find. They will often go into an almost theatrical routine of  words and gesturings as they tell you how to get there; but it is you who has to get there!

I think what is almost always present when a Client has this positive experience of Therapy is a cognitive shift; they still see the same stuff, just in a very different way! Their mind begins to focus on the positive rather than the negative. As a consequence of that their body/mind starts pumping the really good emotional chemicals around their body; as opposed to the bad ones. When I say good and bad chemicals I am not referring to them as good or bad, merely with referrence to how they make us feel. In fact I believe that all we ever are is the outward manifestation of our inner chemical experience?

Negative (chronic) Stress is one of the most pervasive things we can experience and its insidious pursuit  of safety, on our behalf,  can lead us to places we really don't want to go. Essentailly, our stress system is a survival mechanism; when in normal mode. However, when we shift into abnormal mode, as in chronically stressed, it begins to turn against us; but is seemingly unaware of this. Chronic stress alters blood flow to the pre frontal cortex of the brain, this affects our ability to think clearly and reduces our decision making capabilities. Additionally our immune system is compromised and can either malfucntion or be greatly impaired. And, to add insult to injury, our digestive system is also impaired, which can lead to several digestive disorders; and may also limit the amount of nutrients we receive from food and drink. What we eat and drink create the protiens we need to sustain a health life. So, this gives us an idea as to why stress is so damaging for our health. Read more on stress  The ideal situation for us is to maintain balance keeping us at optimum health and the mind is the best tool we have to turn this around and get us back on track.

Here is a link to a couple of articles that explain this in other ways: Read more

The more we do on a daily basis to shift our life into a better place the more we get to enjoy it. You may be going through a very bad time at the moment and if you are, it is likley that your stress levels are high; if not very so! This will only do more to keep you where you don't want to be. I hope that these articles will give you some hope, some faith in just how truly remarkable we humans are!

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING YOURSELF

Posted by thombush on July 17, 2010 at 8:39 AM Comments comments (0)

We sometimes lose sight of how wonderful life truly is and what part we can play in making it so for

ourselves.  Here is a little reminder by Jaqueline Schiff; which I hope you enjoy!

Take These Thoughts With You On Your Journey To Your Dreams

Don't ever forget that you are unique. Be your best self and not an imitation of someone else.

Find your strengths and use them in a positive way. Don't listen to those who ridicule the choices you make.

Travel the road that you have chosen and don't look back with regret. You have to take chances to make your dreams happen.

Remember that there is plenty of time totravel another road - and still another - in your journey through life.

Take the time to find the route that is right for you. You will learn something valuable from every trip you take, so don't be afraid to make mistakes.

Tell yourself that you're okay just the way you are. Make friends who respect your true self.

Take the time to be alone, too, so you canknow just how terrific your own company can be.

Remember that being alone doesn't always mean being lonely; it can be a beautiful experience of finding your creativity, your heartfelt feelings, and the calm and quiet peace deep inside you

.

Don't ever forget that you are special and you have within you the ability to make your dreams come true.

A THOUGHT AS WE EMERGE FROM RECESSION

7% so very true...and nothing to do with religion..!

A holy man was having a conversation with God one day and said, 'God, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.' God led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles, that were strapped to their arms and each found it impossible to reach into the pot of  stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. God said,'You have seen Hell.'

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which again made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but the people here were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.

The holy man said, 'I don't understand..' It is simple,' said God. 'It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think  only of themselves.' Its estimated 93% won't forward this. If you are one of the 7% who will, forward this with the title '7%'. I'm in the 7%. Remember, that I will always share my spoon with you!

The Mayonnaise Jar Philosophy!

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle. When 24 Hours in a day is not enough, Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students, if the jar was full, they agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar, he shook the jar lightly the pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full, they agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full, the students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.  The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, I want  you to recognise that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things - family, children, health, Friends, and Favourite passions –things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else --The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,'  He continued there is no room for  the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So...

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play With your children.

Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

'Take care of the golf balls first -- The things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented...

The professor smiled; 'I'm glad you asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'

Please share this with other "Golf Balls"

I just did......
